Kajian ini adala satu percubaan untuk melihat perkembangan syair-syair Melayu Riau dengan menumpukan karya syair-syair agama Raja Ali Haji khasnya Syair Kitab al-Nikah.&#13;
	Dalam Bab I diberikan gambaran perkembangan syair-syair itu yang berpusat di Penyengat. Ia dapat dilihat dari tiga kategori iaitu agama, sejarah dan fiksyen. Di bincangkan juga latar yang mempengaruhi perkembangan syair itu di Riau. Karya tersebut kebanyakannya dilahirkan oleh golongan Bangsawan Bugis yang dipelopori oleh Raja Ali Haji dan keluarganya.&#13;
	Bab II dibincangkan secara lebih terperinci lagi syair-syair agama Raji Ali Haji terutama Syair Hukum Faraid, Syair Siti Sianah dan Syair Sinar Gemala Mastika Alam sambal membandingkan dengan beberapa syair agama yang lain seperti Syair Burung dan Syair Pintu Hantu.&#13;
	Bab III melihat Syair Kitab al-Nikah secara terperinci terutama perbezaan dengan iga teks yang lain. Kesimpulannya yang didapati semakin muda usia teks itu semain banyak tambahan yang dilakukan. Tambahan tersebut samada secara tidak sengaja iaitu yang dianggap korupsi atau tambahan yang disengajakan yang dianggap sebagai kreasi baru. Tambahan ini dibuat sama ada secara improvisasi mahupun modifikasi. Perubahan yang disengajakan ini sesuai dilihat dari sudut teori resepsi sastera.</text>

Disertasi ini mengemukakan satu kajian perbandingan novel-novel perang yang dihasilkan oleh novelis-novelis Malaysia, Filipina dan Indonesia. Kaedah penyelidikan dan penulisan yang digunakan adalah antara disiplin : meneliti kehadiran dan pertautan disiplin-disiplin non-sastera dalam karya sastera. Landasan awal diberikan dalam pengenalan dan Bab 1, perbincangan tentang pendekatan kajian dan beberapa teori tentan gperang. Perbincangan bergerak memasuki disiplin pada Bab 2 hingga 5 : kesan-kesan sejarah psikologi, sosial dan estetik. Novel-novel kajian dibincangkan dalam suasana perbandingan, mencari, mengenal pasti serta melihat intensiti setiap gambaran sepertimana terdpat dalam novel-novel kajian.Kesan sejarah telah menampakkan beberapa pemerihalan nyata seperti keterikatan novelis, kehadiran unsur anakronisme, etnosentrisme serta nasionalisme. Kesan psikologi pula menggalurkan beberapa priority watak-watak seperti keselamatan, kebahagiaan diri dan keluarga, ketuhanan serta survival di waktu darurat.</text>

Tesis ini merupakan satu cubaan pertama untuk mengkaji secara perbandingan kata majmuk dalam bahasa Melayu dan bahasa Thai yang merupakan satu unsur yang penting dalam bidang morfologi. Pendekatan yang digunakan ialah teori morfologi yang berdasarkan kriteria sintaksis dan kriteria semantik.&#13;
	Kajian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengenal pasti konstruksi kata majmuk, penjenisan kata majmuk, bentuk kata majmuk serta fungsi dan maknanya dengan cara mengkaji dan menganalisis kata majmuk yang terdapat dalam bahan-bahan yang dikaji. Data yang digunakan untuk analisis berdasarkan dua puluh satu naskah majalah dalam bahasa Melayu, dan dua puluh satu naskah majalah dalam bahasa Thai yang diterbitkan dalam tahun 1993-1994.&#13;
	Analisis-analisis yang dijalankan menunjukkan bahawa kata majmuk dalam bahasa Melayu dan bahasa Thai, pada amnya, mempunyai persamaan dalam penggunaan konstruksi bentuk kata majmuk, fungsi dan maknanya. Walau bagaimanapun, terdapat sedikit perbezaan dari segi jumlah penggunaan, penjenisan dan perician konstruksi bentuk kata majmuk. Perbezaan ini disebabkan perbezaan jenis keluarga bahasa di antara bahasa Melayu dan bahasa Thai, yang menyebabkan bahasa Melayu mempunyai cara pembentukan kata melalui proses pengimbuhan, tetapi bahasa thai menekankan proses pembentukan kata yang berkaitan dengan unsur nada. &#13;
	Kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa banyak maklumat dapat dikumpulkan daripada kajian perbandingan yang memberi manfaat kepadaahli-ahli bahasa. Kajian susulan yang lebih lanjut perlu dibuat tentang perbandingan antara kata majmuk dalam bahasa Mekayu dan bahasa Thai dalam data-data yang lain, misalnya dalam laras-laras sains dan teknologi semasa, sastera, cerita rakyat, buku kanak-kanak dan surat khabar.</text>

Tesis ini adalah satu kajian dalam bidang Sosiologi Sastera. Kajian ini berdasarkan teks atau bahan kajian yang terdiri daripada mantera-mantera yang dikumpul dari beberapa tempat dalam setiap negeri di Semenanjung. Mantera dipilih sebagai bahan kajian, bertolak daripada tanggapan bahawa mantera merupakan dokumen sosio-budaya masyarakat Melayu. Kajian tertumpu kepada corak pemikiran masyarakat Melayu. Bagi mendapatkan gambaran yang lebih jelas tentang pemikiran masayarakat Melayu dan kedudukan mantera dalam masyarakat, tesis ini dipecahkan kepada tujuh bab. Bab I merupakan pengenalan kepada keseluruhan tesis, antara lain menyentuh bidang, tujuan, masalah, hipotesis dan kaedah kajian. Bab II menekankan kedudukan mantera sebagai karya sastera. Perbincangan tertumpu kepada pengertian mantera; konsep dan ciri-ciri mantera; binaan mantera dan perbandingan mantera dengan puisi-puisi lain untuk menunjukkan bahawa mantera merupakan satu genre dan mempunyai kedudukan yang tersendiri dalam masyarakat. Bab III memperlihatkan jenis dan fungsi mantera dalam masyarakat yang melibatkan hampir semua aspek hidup dan peringkat umur anggota-anggota masyarakat, terutama pada zaman dahulu. Bab IV hingga VI merupakan inti perbincangan kerana berkaitan dengan kedudukan mantera dalam masyarakat sehingga menjadikan sebagai dokumen sosio-budaya. Perbincangan dalam Bab IV antaranya mengenai penerimaan masyarakat tentang mantera termasuk pembelajaran, penyebaran, khalayak, kedudukan mantera pada hari ini dan masa depan. Bab V khusus membicarakan penggunaan simbol dalam mantera. Simbol-simbol yang berkaitan dengan ketuhanan, makhluk ghaib, alam, benda dan manusia dihuraikan untuk memahami pemikiran orang Melayu. Corak pemikiran masyarakat Melayu dianalisis dalam Bab VI. Tumpuan diberikan kepada aspek pemikiran berhubung dengan kepercayaan warisan; pemikiran tentang ketuhanan yang dilihat secara vertical dan horizontal; pemikiran tentang makhluk ghaib yang baik seperti Malaikat, jin Islam dan Orang Bunian serta yang jahat termasuk iblis, jin kafir dan hantu. Turut disentuh dalam bab VI ialah pemikiran tentang alam nyata dana lam ghaib serta pemikiran tentang manusia. Manusia dilihat sebagai makhluk yang hidup di dalam empat alam, dan diri manusia itu sendiri daripada jasad, jiwa dan roh. Segala persoalan pokok dalam tesis ini dirumuskan dala Bab terakhir yang juga memuatkan beberapa kesimpulan.</text>
