Aspek pengupayaan istilah sains telah diteliti dengan menganalisis keserasian konsep dengan bahasa sumber, prose morfologi yang dialami oleh istilah sains untuk diupayakan, dan pengupayaan pemakaian istilah sains dalam teks sains dan kertas soalan sains. Bab pertama disertasi ini menyatakan perkara-perkara yang asas dalam kajian ini, seperti latar belakang kajian, perkembangan peristilahan sains dalam bahasa Melayu, tujuan kajian, kepentingan kajian, dan definasi konsep, manakala bab kedua mengemukakan aspek teoretis kajian. Bab ketiga, keempat, dan kelima memberikan tumpuan kepada aspek pengupayaan lapan ratus dua puluh lima istilah sains yang terpilih daripada Daftar Istilah Mabbim. Selain meneliti aspek keserasian konsep istilah sains bahasa Melayu berbanding dengan konsep istilah sains dalam bahasa sumber, aspek pengupayaan morfologi istilah pengimbuhan, penggandaaan, pemajmukan dan pinjaman set pengupayaan pemakaiannya dalam teks sains dan kertas soalan sains juga turut dikaji. Samad Ismail. Sehubungan itu, penelitian ini juga akan membicarakan masyarakat dan individu-individu yang terdapat dalam sesebuah masyarakat yang digambarkan oleh pengarang dalam karya-karyanya itu. Untuk meneliti isu-isu semasa dan hubungannya dengan masyarakat serta individu-individu tertentu, maka kajian ini akan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi. Dalam hal ini peneliti akan membincangkan latar belakang A. Samad Ismail iaitu melihat latar belakang pendidikan, pekerjaan dan minatnya terhadap karya satera kerana dengan pemahaman terhadap latar belakang pengarang akan dapat memahami lebih mendalam hubungan karya dengan pengkarya dan masyarakat dalam lingkungan pengarang. Kajian ini akan diikuti dengan perbincangan terhadap isu-isu semasa yang dikemukakan oleh pengarang dalam karya-karyanya itu. Beberapa isu-isu yang agak dominan dikemukakan untuk melihat bahawa isu-isu tersebut merupakan isu yang serius dalam masyarakat pada sesuatu tahap atau zaman.
