Sejak beratus-ratus tahun, sejarah membuktikan bahawa songket mempunyai kedudukan dan peranannya yang teristimewa dalam sosio budaya masyarakat Melayu. Peyelidikan ini adalah bermula dengan pengklasifikasian tujuh (7) motif yang terdiri daripada flora, fauna, kosmos, alam benda, geometrik, kuih-muih dan kaligraf. Setiap motif terpilih, wujud perkaitan atau pertalian secara langsung dengan penghidupan orang Melayu. Bermakna setiap olahan motif itu terlebih disemak, diteliti, dipadan, dibanding dan diberi interpretasi makna. Justeru setiap ruang lingkup kajian adalah menjurus kepada intisari keseluruhan budaya Melayu seperti nilai, norma, pandangan dunia, kepercayaan, adat dan falsafah di dalamnya yang menjadi pautan nilai budaya. Objektif kedua adalah untuk menguji hubungan variable penjelasan (explanatory variables) seperti; etnik. Paras pendidikan, umur, kawasan, strata, negeri, pendapatan, status pekerjaan, industri dan status pekerjaan sebelum kahwin dengan kedua-dua variable pertengahan tersebut. Dengan menggunakan kaedah ujian ANOVA sehala, didapati bahawa umur kahwin pertama dan pengalaman perancangan keluarga mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan dengan fertiliti bagi kaum Melayu, Cina dan India di Semenanjung Malaysia. Dengan menggunakan kaedah Regresi Pelbagai Giliran, didapati bahawa terdapat lima variable penjelasan yang dipanggil variable prediktif mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan dengan variable criterion umur kahwin pertama. Variabel-variabel tersebut adalah taraf pendidikan, umur, wilayah, strata, dan industri responden. Teknik regresi Logistik digunakan untuk melihat kekuatan variable yang mempengaruhi pengalaman perancangan keluarga. Secara hirakinya, variable negeri dan kumpulan umur responden mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan dengan pengalaman perancangan keluarga. Kajian turut menitikberatkan lapisan makna yang terdapat pada unsur alam kerana puisi-puisi Dharmawijaya perlu dibuat tanggapan untuk menterjemahkan makna-makna yang sebenar yang banyak melibatkan perihal kemanusiaan. Kajian terhadap pemikiran Dharmawijaya ini juga untuk melihat unsur-unsur estetika kerana puisi-puisi yang dihasilkan bersumberkan pengalaman dan sikap penyair.
