To quote the Introduction, "the thesis aims at distilling a theory of early Malay political beliefs... The Introduc tion outlines the research principles applied to the Raffles MS 18 (a combination of bo th historica.l method and ideas borrowed from political sociolo gy and anthr opo].ogy), and briefly reviews the Raffles MS 18 and other versions of the Sejarah Me layu, as well as other old Ma.lay texts of relevance to Malay political thinking of the 15th-16th centuries.
