5 orang awam terbunuh dalam serangan AS ke atas bot kargo kecil di Selat Hormuz
Journal of the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society
Evidence from the 1431 Chinese expedition demonstrates that sailors adapted flexibly to changing wind systems. Rather than strictly following a fixed directional cycle, fleets could travel both eastward and westward within the same monsoon season. For example, Chinese ship sailed from China to Java on the winter monsoon, then continued to Malacca during the southwest monsoon, and later crossed the Indian Ocean to Hormuz during the northeast monsoon. , returning again within that same seasonal patters.
Journal of the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society
The passage explain that sailing routes were heavily influenced not just by wind direction but by seasonal weather conditions. Stormy monsoon periods often made certain coastal harbors in accessible, such as the east coast of the Malay peninsula during the musim tutup kuala and the west coast of India during the southwest monsoon. These environmental constrains shaped navigation strategies more than simplistic wind model suggests.

The acquisition of Malay as a second language: A case of the essentiality of culture learning
This paper argues that Malay is a highly social/cultural context language. As such, acquiring/learning Malay is essentially acquiring/learning (mainstream) Malay culture.
This paper will attempt to demonstrate the highly social/cultural context of Malay by discussing some of its salient affective characteristics from frameworks that have been developed within anthropological and sociological linguistics. By discussing the affective characteristics of Malay, it is inasmuch as dealing with the special characteristics of Malays as an ethnic group.
Chinese–Malay–Thai interactions and the making of Kelantan Peranakan Chinese ethnicity
C hinese society in Kelantan is generally understood in terms of a division between town/urban Chinese and village/rural rural Chinese. This understanding of the most salient division among local Chinese differs from those that obtain elsewhere in Malaysia. In the country's other states, division by speech-group—into Hokkien, Hakka, Cantonese, Teochiu, Hokchia, and Hainanese, and others is emphasized. This division is taken to give structure to Chinese society in those states. At the heart of the contrasting pattern in Kelantan are the state's rural or village Chinese; members of this latter group are frequently labeled “Peranakan Chinese." ¹ The distinct identity of the Peranakan Chinese of Kelantan derives from more than their mere residence in rural parts of the state rather than in its towns. Their identity embodies an ethnic division that in turn reflects lengthy and complex patterns of Chinese settlement in the state. 2 Historically, the Peranakan Chinese have become extensively assimilated into Kelantan's rural Malay and Thai or Siamese communities, both culturally and linguistically. Marriages between Chinese males and Thai women some two hundred years ago in Patani and Kelantan marked the beginning of the Peranakan Chinese society of Kelantan. In contrast, the group's language shows massive Malay lexical and grammatical borrowing but Thai influence limited to lexical borrowing. The Malay influence is so extensive that it is a constitutive part of the language.
Journal of the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society
The development of modern navigation techniques began in Europe during the late 15th century, not the early 1420s as often misunderstood. Contrary to popular belief, Prince Henry the Navigater did not initiate advanced oceanic navigations for voyages to Asia. Rather, it was under king John ll of Portugal in the 1470s that significant progress occured. His directive aimed to improve navigation after Portuguese sailors crossed the equator in search of the legendary figure Prester John.
