Description
During World War I, when cotton was scarce, Kimberly-Clark created a thin, flat cotton alternative that the army tried to employ as a filter in gas masks. Because the war ended before scientists could perfect the material, the business redesigned it to be smoother and softer and then marketed Kleenex as facial tissue instead.
