"The first Malayan census of population which treated the Orang Asli as a special category was carried out in 1911, and their number was estimated to be about 30000. Considering that it was the first attempt made to count the number of Orang Asli, especially in view of the fact that so little was known about their locations at that time, this figure was a very reasonable estimate."
