"The term 'Senoi' is of comparatively recent origin, and in the past the word 'Sakai' was normally used for the tribes with whom we are concerned here. The word 'Sakai', however, is most unsatisfactory, first because it was at times used to describe Orang Asli as a whole and at others to refer only to the Senoi; and second because the word has undesirable connotations, as it means dependants or slaves."
