"The people earn their common-noun label "sea-gypsies" due to their way of life of living in wooden boats (the kabang) and temporary huts, and foraging for food. The fish they catch from the sea using nets are for their own consumption, and mostly for the purpose of bartering for other goods in the local markets. Hogan writing in 1972 gives an interesting account of the Moken and Moklen, as he does for the Urak Lawoi'."
