Because Polaris appeared nearly fixed in the sky, its altitude helped sailors estimates latitude, although it was not perfectly alighed with the North Pole. The text also explains that Polaris was less useful in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean., where sailors relied more on coastal navigation. Araba and Chinese navigators used simple tools such as the kamal and star plates to measure star height above the horizon fo guidance at sea.

  Tragedi 13 Mei 1969 merupakan satu peristiwa paling bersejarah dalam negara apabila setelah 12 tahun Malaysia mencapai kemerdekaan berdasarkan perjanjian Quid Pro Quo, serangan dan pembunuhan meletus di antara kaum Melayu dan Cina. Pertelingkahan kaum ini bukan berlaku secara mendadak tetapi duri-duri persengketaan telah berputik dari awal lagi. Antara penyebabnya ialah dasar penjajahan British yang mengasingkan hubungan antara kaum dari semua aspek kehidupan, kehidupan kaum Cina yang tidak mendapat perhatian British, syarat kerakyatan bermula dengan Perlembagaan Malayan Union sehinggalah kepada pembentukan perlembagaan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, pemberontakan komunis, peranan Lew Kuan Yew dan Parti PAP, dan keputusan pilihan raya 1968. Sehubungan itu tulisan ini juga akan memaparkan tentang peristiwa ini dari kaca mata orang-orang Cina serta faktor-faktor yang membantutkan penyatuan kaum di Malaysia.
