Islam has been perceived by many Western nations and non-Muslims around the world as a religion that promote terrorism and conflict. The various factors need to be highlighted which resulted to the resurgence of Islamic fundamentalism. The exposure to Islamic practice or way of life are being introduced globally hoping to have a better understanding of the Islamic religion amongst the westerners and non-muslims.

The phenomena of Islamic resurgence occur throughout the world in this century are much discussed. The efforts has been taken to expose the Islamic religion, its perception on Islam widely known by the mass media. The effect of colonialism has also given a false perception by non-muslims. Although in the west much of this perception of Islam has been the product of historic misconceptions and disinformation dating back to the 11th century Crusade, the anti-west and Khomeyni-led Iranian Revolution of 1979.

Throughout the eighties, neither the public nor the media in the west had the time or perhaps the willingness to learn more about Islam. Islam then was given extremely bad coverage which associated it with terrorist activities undertaken by isolated groups or individuals.
