"One of the main difficulties is that the Negritos, being a preliterate people, do not possess any written sacred scripts or documents, as it is that informants are likely to give different answers to one's questions, thus creating an impression of a lack of conformity, and even of confusion. Similarly, the various tribes and even the different nomadic bands at times, will have different interpretations of what is accepted as dogma. But this impression of a lack of conformity and confusion must not be exaggerated for after all, even the followers of the world's great religions, especially the laymen, will by no means be able to provide identical accounts of what they believe in."
