"For Orang Asli, the benefits of developing golf courses and resorts are indirect at best. It takes two or three hundred workers to build a golf course. but only about forty to run it, fewer if it is mechanized. A few Semai with the equivalent of a high school diploma have jobs at resorts in the Cameron Highlands. In general, however, these jobs are no better than the ones they replace: occasional labor as rural proletarians collecting forest products or working in the fields."
