  Masjid adalah salah satu bergunan peribadatan yang terunggul dalam Islam yang dibina untuk menyampai kan keadilan, pengetahan, keberanian dan kebaikan dalam kalangan orang-orang Islam. Di Malaysia, pembangunan seni Islam dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor ekspresional, kebudayaan dan tempat yang boleh dilihat sama ada melalui kajian ke atas gaya seni dan dekorasi Masjid. Kajian ini dijalankan menggunakan kedua-dua metodologi kualitatif dan kuantitatif dengan tiga tujuan utama; pertama untuk mengesahkan gaya dan bentuk kaligrafi dan motif di masjid Putra dan Masjid Sultan Sulaiman. Dalam hal ini, majority in skripsi ditulis dalam gaya Thuluth di sebabkan oleh sifatnya yang menegaskan bentuk huruf yang unggul dan mudah dibaca. Tambahan pula, pengulangan pilihan bentuk motif pilihan dan kajian ke asal usul motif menunjukkan pengaruh negara-negara Islam lain ke dekorasi kedua-dua masjid tersebut. Tujuan kedua adalah untuk menganalisis bahan yang digunakan serta isi kandungan ayat dalam dekorasi kedua-dua Masjid. Dalam hal ini penggunaan meluas bahan plaster dalam kedua-dua kes sebagai bahan asas menunjuk kepada tiga faktor termasuklah ekspresi artis, impele gaya seni bina dan keadaan geographical. Apa yang menakjubkan adalah terdapat hubungan jelas antara pemilihan bahan dan isi kandungan ayat dengan konsep dan tema. Tujuan terakhir kajian ini ialah untuk menilai-nilai estetik gaya, yang mana data dianalisis pertamanya berasas kan empat prinsip estetik teori Zakaria Ali, dan mengkajinya mengikat tiga peningkat interpretasi seni visual oleh Erwin Panofsky. Hasil kajian membuktikan bahawa ekspresi estetik oleh nitis sebagai object meregangkan tema dan koncep. Analisis temu bual berstruktur yang di lakukan ke atas 50 informan membuktikan apresiasi seni Islam oleh masyarakat Muslim di Malaysia.
