Bongai merupakan satu bentuk permainan yang merangkumi kedua-dua bidang senisuara dan senimuzik. Ini kerana terdapatnya nyanyian berpantun dengan diiringi oleh alatan muzik seperti Bangsi, Biola, Gong, Rebana dan Salung. Manakala lagu-lagu yang dinyanyikan pula biasanya merupakan pantun-pantun yang menggunakan bahasa Melayu serta bahasa daerah loghat Negeri Sembilan. Biasanya nyanyian pantun Bongai tadi akan diadakan secara berlawanan di antara seorang lelaki dan seorang perempuan yang akan diiringi alat-alat muzik tadi.

Permainan Rebana Ubi di Kelantan

Rebana Ubi ialah sejenis alat bunyian tradisional yang sangat terkenal di negeri Kelantan. Rebana Ubi Kelantan adalah satu-satunya alat muzik tradisional Melayu yang terbesar jika dibandingkan dengan alat muzik paluan lain seperti gedombak, geduk, kompang, marwas dan lain-lain yang dimainkan ni negeri-negeri lain.

Ia merupakan sejenis gendang besar dipernuat daripada kayu Merbau yang dibentuk kepada kayu bulat yang dinamakan temalang. Kayu bulat ini dilekatkan dengan kulit kerbau balau yang telah dikeringkan pada satu permukaaannya. Di sekeliling gendang tersebut terdapat pula kayu-kayu yang digunakan untuk mengubah bunyi rebana itu apabila dipalu. Kayu-kayu ini dipanggil baji. Permukaan yang satu lagi dibiarkan kosong tapi kadang-kadang ditutup dengan kepingan kulit yang disorok masuk ke dalam badan rebana ubi dan dikenali sebagai pemekok rebana. Ia dipukul dengan menggunakan alat pemukul atau dipukul dengan tangan sahaja.

Ia ditubuhkan bukan untuk ditontoni oleh orang ramai dan ia tidak boleh dimainkan tanpa mendapat perkenan daripada raja atau sultan terlebih dahulu,

Pada hari ini, negeri-negeri yang mempunyai ensembel muzik nobat ialah Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Terengganu dan Kelantan. Di Terengganu ia dikenali sebagai Gamelan Di Raja Terengganu dan di Kelantan pula ianya dikenali sebagai Pasukan Gong Di Raja atau Gendang Besar Di Raja.
